Nepal has been ranked the 12th biggest source of foreign students for the universities in the United States, the US government’s annual Open Doors report released this week says.
As of now, there are 13,229 Nepali students studying in the US, according to the report.
The report’s previous edition had ranked Nepal in the 11th position with 13,270 students. It means the number of Nepali students slightly dropped (by 0.3 per cent).
Nepal is behind China, India, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan, Brazil, Mexico and Nigeria on the list of top 25 source countries.
Among Nepali students, 56.5 per cent are doing undergraduate courses, and 30.5 per cent are in graduate programmes. Around one per cent Nepali students are doing non-degree programmes and 12 per cent are in optional practical training.
Meanwhile, the report also informs that 566 American students are also studying in Nepal and this country holds the 62nd position in terms of the US students’ top educational destination.
